Topic:
Pension Funding Relief Becomes Law

Category:
Informational

Target Audience:
Multiemployer Defined Benefit Pension Plan Trustees and Professional Advisers

Action Requested:
None

Executive Summary:

On June 25, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Preservation of Access to Care for Medicare Beneficiaries and Pension Relief Act of 2010.  After nearly two years of coordinated efforts to convince Congress of the need for relief following the financial crisis that began in 2008 and continues today, the passage of this legislation gives multiemployer plans a substantial measure of funding relief.  An explanation of the relief may be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.

In the coming months, the NCCMP will work to ensure that the provisions of this bill are properly interpreted and implemented by the regulatory agencies. The NCCMP will also continue to lead the effort to press for enactment of the remaining relief measures contained in both the Pomeroy/Tiberi and Casey reform bills.
