As plans confront the new funding targets required by the PPA in the face of the present bear markets, it becomes increasingly important to preserve plan assets while exploring ways to improve plan income without relying entirely on new contributions. In this context it is important to understand the concepts behind fi nancial economics and if, or when such a funding policy may make sense for multiemployer plans.
